In the latest episode of our exciting new blog series, Playwright Chronicles, we chatted with playwright, Tom Attea. Tom is a long-time member of The Dramatists Guild and has so far written 14 shows (both musicals and plays), which have been produced in Off-Broadway theater.

Tom is an inspiring voice in contemporary New York theater, and we were keen to find out what inspires him to write new works, as well as how his writing style has evolved over the years.

How to Choose The Right Plays or Musicals to Produce

So, you know you want to put on a play. Perhaps there’s a show you’ve been burning to produce. As we set about producing a play in today’s day and age, I think we must ask ourselves, “Why this play? Why now? Why this medium?” Sometimes, the play itself seems to answer these questions immediately. Sometimes, it’s more of a challenge. Producers selecting plays may also use this criteria to drive their lists of dream shows – and yet sometimes logistical factors, a desire to put together a season of plays in dialogue with one another, or the desire to find the perfect play for an ensemble of artists you love set producers on a more directed, play-specific hunt. Top Tips on the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival, with over 50,000 performances of 3,279 shows in nearly 300 venues across the city in 2016. It is held in August every year, and it is really never too early to start planning for the Fringe! There are so many things to consider: What type of venue is best for your show? City center or out of the main action? How do you promote it? How do you compete with the thousands of other shows appearing at the Fringe? Honestly, the top tip really is to ENJOY the Edinburgh Festival Fringe! The diversity, quality, and eccentricity on display is amazing. There really is nothing like it!
