Everybody’s Talking About Jamie – the movie

It was announced this month that the film adaptation of the hugely popular British musical, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, will now premier on Amazon this September. The film was originally set to be distributed in October 2020, by 20th Century Studios, but COVID forced the studio to delay the release. Amazon have bought the distribution rights for an undisclosed sum and it will premier on Sept. 17. Catch up on the trailer below.

Staying in movie land, the countdown is now on until the release date of the hotly anticipated film adaptation of Quiara Alegria Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights. Get your popcorn at the ready, 2 weeks and counting!

Winnie the Pooh…Off-Broadway!

Yes, you heard right. Winnie the Pooh will premier Off-Broadway this October. The show will feature life-size puppets created by Rockefeller Productions and music is written by the Sherman Brothers, who also wrote the music for the 1977 musical film The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. This should be fun!

Brian Bedford’s The Importance of Being Earnest

You’ve got just a couple of days to catch the streamed 2011 production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by and starring Brian Bedford. Presented by L.A. Theatre Works and hosted by David Hyde Pierce, tickets cost $15 and can be bought here. Perfect weekend viewing!

Samuel E. Wright

Tributes are being paid to the late actor Samuel E. Wright, best known for originating the role of Mufasa in The Lion King on Broadway and voicing Sebastian the crab in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Disney paid tribute to the actor on a giant billboard at the New Amsterdam Theatre, The Lion King musical’s original New York home.

Sutton Foster in Anything Goes

It was announced this month that Sutton Foster will take reprise her 2011 Tony Award-winning role of Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes this summer at London’s Barbican Theatre. She takes over from Megan Mullally who had to withdraw from the show due to injury. It will mark Foster’s debut in the West End and the show is set to run until October 2021.

Broadway is Back!

This September will also see the postponed Tony Awards live streamed on Paramount+ from 7-9 p.m. ET. The ceremony will then be followed by The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back!, a “live concert event” featuring performances from the three Best Musical Contenders: Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. During the broadcast, presenters will hand out three of the biggest Tony awards: Best Revival of a Play, Best Play, and Best Musical.
